Ida + Fredrik traveled all the way from Norway to South Africa during January. Ida wanted to show her fiancé the country that she had spent time in as a teenager when she was part of an exchange program. They decided to include a couple shoot on their trip to help capture their memories.
Something in Ida’s email tugged at my heartstrings and I just knew I wanted to document their love story while they were here! She said that she didn’t care where they take the pictures. As long as Fredrik was there and it’s in the Western Cape.
But then something almost terrible happened during our photo session. The two of them, along with my assistant and I, almost spent the night on the Table Mountain Reserve! And all because I didn’t see the sign that said that the forest closes at 6pm!
While we were shooting we heard from somewhere far away, someone speaking on a loudspeaker. Now, don’t ask me why this didn’t bother me… When I didn’t smell or see smoke I convinced myself that since it’s not a fire warning, we were fine and didn’t need to bother with it. Turns out we DID need to take heed! It was the park ranger warning us that he was closing the gate and locking us in!
And so we arrived at the gate to find it deserted. Even though my Taz is so small, we still couldn’t make it fit through a tight squeeze on the side of the gate. I felt so utterly horrified that this had happened and that I could have prevented it had I just read the sign! In the end I phoned Table Mountain Rescue Services who came to bail us out. But not before threatening us with a R1,500 fine.
Luckily Ida and Fredrik had rented a car with a Gauteng numberplate and mine is still from Mpumalanga, so we sweet-talked our way out of a ticket by claiming that we weren’t locals and didn’t know a forest could close. Like seriously?!
I just have to say, that not once did Ida or Fredrik get agitated! I feel really blessed to have you guys as my clients! You are amazing!
And doesn’t Ida have the prettiest smile? Even after dating for 8 years, they are still so in love and such an inspiration! Hope you guys had a wonderful holiday and that you enjoy the photographs xx
