Sometimes I think I’m a little accident prone. Like that time my camera strap broke and my camera fell and broke during a wedding. Or that time I fell from a golf cart and got a slight concussion. Or the wedding right after that where I walked backwards and fell over a huge rock. Yes, that’s me. My assistants know that they need to be behind me at all times. That way they can warn me of stuff that’s behind me!
Gerrit and Grettchen’s wedding brought me to Citrusdal for the very first time. Her first email to me was so short and to the point.. “Do you want to photograph an awesome wedding?”. Little did I know how awesome it was going to be! The coolest part for me was their reception. They hired butlers from The South African Butler Academy and had Anjas (from Die Sitrus Events) prepare a scrumptious feast that was brought to the guests by the butlers on long wooden planks. It was truly something to behold. There was a moment during the reception where I felt at a loss – I didn’t know what to photograph first, there was so much gorgeousness!
Their ceremony was so special as well. Everything was held on Gerrit’s family farm where they have an enclosure with oak trees, zebras and springboks.
It was such a cool experience listening to the minister and seeing the zebras chase each other around us!
So where did we have our “accident”? Well it was when we arrived right on time at the guest house where Grettchen was getting ready and I heard a loud “SSSHHHH!!” when I got out the car. I had driven a little bit too fast on the dirt road and cut my tire :( Please note, neither my assistant or I had ever changed a tyre in our entire lives. We also really didn’t have time for this catastrophe as we adhere to a strict timeline. But after denting my poor tazz trying to get the jack out of the car and reading my car’s manual “how to change a flat tyre”, a gentleman came to our rescue. But now I can proudly say that I’ve changed a tyre!
I hope these images give you a small look into what this magical day was like..
